Andor season 2 is confirmed to bring back Rogue One fan-favorite character Orson Krennic as the series gets closer to the events of the film.
Fans have been speculating on which characters from Rogue One may appear in the show's second and final season considering that it will take place in the last couple of years leading up to the film where we saw Cassian Andor for the first time.
Earlier this year, Ben Mendelsohn addressed his potential return as Krennic where he strongly suggested that he won't be reprising the role in the upcoming season. However, as it turns out, he will be appearing after all.
Andor Season 2 to Bring Back Ben Mendelsohn as Orson Krennic
A recent report has confirmed that Mendelsohn will be reprising the role of Director Orson Krennic in Andor season 2.
The Rogue One star's return was revealed by Alonso Ruizpalacios, one of the directors of the upcoming season, during an interview.
He mentioned Mendelsohn as one of the heavyweight actors who are appearing in the second season alongside Stellan Skarsgard and Forest Whitaker.
Diego Luna also hinted in a recent convention appearance that there are familiar faces from Rogue One that are returning in the second season.
"I can tell you, Rogue One is coming, so there will be characters there that you will recognize. There will be cool stuff. For those who love Rogue One, this season is going to be very special," he teased.
Considering Krennic's position at the Empire during the building of the Death Star, it's not surprising that he will be returning in the second season where they will explore the events leading up to the film.
When Mendelsohn played coy in his response earlier this year, we can now safely assume that he was not allowed to confirm his return during that time which is why he didn't reveal his Star Wars comeback.
It is exciting to see how Krennic's return will play out and what kind of storyline they have in store for him considering that we already know his incoming downfall as we've seen in Rogue One.
Andor season 2 is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2025.
