Batman Movie May Already Be Facing Its Biggest Issue Yet

The DC versus Marvel movies debate has been a hot topic ever since fans caught on DC's catching up game with its biggest rival. And even though the big DC fans (me included) may try to justify the past few films, it's hard to ignore that Marvel has been killing it when it comes to the narrative.

On the other hand, we've seen several gloriously shot DC films go down the drain thanks to the odd plot or the glaring plot holes. From the looks of it, there's a new report suggesting that Ben Affleck's upcoming solo Batman movie may be facing the same danger as its predecessors.

The Ringer has recently delivered a piece on TV and movies, but the bigger news within touches on the fact that the Batman movie may already have a lot of problems in the script alone.

American Psycho author Bret Easton Ellis shared with The Ringer a story about having dinner with some executives who are in the same circle as executives on the Batman movie. From his story, Ellis learned that the executives have already seen a number of issues with the script—at least 30 wrong things in the script alone.

What should be good news here is that the mistakes can be fixed. But the bad news is that the studio doesn't seem to be interested in making any changes.

"[The executives] said, ‘We don't care. We don't really care. The amount of money we're going to make globally, I mean 70 percent of our audience is not going to be seeing this in English. And it doesn't really matter, these things that you're bringing up about the flaws of the script.'"

Of course, this should be taken with a grain of salt, considering that it's already a third-party information kind of report. However, when we look at what DC has rolled out so far in terms of its films, it's hard to turn a blind eye from the report.

In Suicide Squad alone, there were talks of how the film was reshot to get the Deadpool humor (a supposed to be sleeper hit that just, well, became the biggest hit) and that there were scenes that supposedly didn't make the cut---hence the extended cut version. It's not hard to put the two together to see that anecdote in an alarming light.

It's one thing to try and compete with your biggest rival on any medium. But if you already know that there's something wrong with it—worse, if I's all really about the money—the most you can do to compensate would be to at least try and fix it.

Hopefully, this report really requires that grain of salt. Otherwise, DC fans may want to start tempering their expectations, starting with The Flash movie.
