Following the first season’s release last year, Netflix just announced that BASTARD!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy Season 2 will be released in 2023.
The announcement was made alongside the release of the new season’s trailer, key visual, and new voice cast members.
This Season 2 reveal comes just four months after the first season’s end, indicating that it was a hit.
BASTARD!! Anime, New Cast Members
BASTARD!! might be a new show, but its source material is an old manga that's been around since 1988.
Technically, the manga’s story is not yet over, though the last chapter was released back in 2010.
Because of this, it was surprising to see Netflix and Liden Films (of Tokyo Revengers fame) pick this classic manga up.
In typical Netflix fashion, the show’s first season was released in two parts, with the last batch of episodes being released in September 2022.
Now, just a few months since then, Season 2 has been confirmed, though there’s no word yet on an episode count.
What we do know is that it will bring back characters from the first season.
It will also feature new characters who are voiced by these new cast members:
- Takuma Terashima (also Klaus Lunette in Black Clover) as Joshua Berahia
- Sho Hayami (also Tokiomi Tohsaka in Fate/Zero) as Nils John Mifune
- Junichi Suwabe (also Shōei Barō in Blue Lock) as Yngwie von Mattström
- Koji Yusa (also Brain Unglaus in Overlord) as Zion Sol Vandenberg

BASTARD!! Season 2 Trailer, Release Date
This isn’t the first anime adaptation of BASTARD!! though, as a six-episode OVA was released back in 1992 and was made by studio AIC.
Though it’s fair to say that this new anime will be easier to watch for modern audiences.
Season 2’s new trailer gives fans a taste of what to expect. And from the looks of it, this new season will serve up more dark action, along with a big serving of ecchi.

While its dark fantasy premise might make it seem like a serious show, BASTARD!! also has lots of comedic elements, along with a whole load of ecchi content.
Not everyone is a fan of the show’s dark fantasy and comedy/ecchi combo given its fairly low MyAnimeList rating. Though it seems to have a dedicated enough fanbase given its renewal.
BASTARD!! Heavy Metal, Dark Fantasy Season 2 will be released on Netflix sometime in 2023.
