The Barbie movie just hit the big screens, painting the whole town pink, but you might be anticipating a Barbie 2 getting its confirmation ahead of the movie’s release.
Starring Margot Robbie as the titular doll alongside co-star Ryan Gosling as the ‘main’ Ken by her side, the Barbie movie shows the iconic toy couple leaving Barbie World for the 'real world'. The question is, can we expect them back for more adventures in a Barbie movie sequel?
Has the Barbie Movie Sequel Been Confirmed?
Although the Barbie movie is still a few weeks away, fans are already anticipating the possibility of a Barbie 2 happening. Heck, some fans are even going so far as to predict a ‘Barbie-Verse’ (Barbie Multiverse) happening on the big screens.
However, in a recent interview for TIME magazine, the titular doll actress, Margot Robbie, has some pretty disappointing news for those expecting a sequel:
“It could go a million different directions from this point. But I think you fall into a bit of a trap if you try and set up a first movie whilst also planning for sequels.”
While this does not confirm nor deny that Barbie 2 could be in the plans behind-the-scenes, Robbie is right. The Barbie movie may have brought fans to expect more from it, but let’s face it: no matter how much you like a movie, the sequel rarely hits the mark.
Besides, as Robbie said, the movie’s direction could go in a ‘million different’ ways. As previous filmmakers have always pointed out, the audiences’ reception of the film matters most when deciding to make a sequel. Not to mention, whether it becomes a box office hit or not, too.
Possible Barbie 2 Cast: Who Could Return For The Barbie Movie Sequel?
The Barbie movie is not out yet, but considering that there’s a possibility that nobody dies in the film, then the Barbie movie sequel would most likely feature the same cast members.
Besides, the majority of the cast belong in Barbie World, so what could possibly go wrong with them while Barbie and Ken ventured off into the real world, right?

Possible Barbie 2 Story: What Could Barbie and Ken Do Next?
The official synopsis for the Barbie movie reads: “After being expelled from the utopian Barbie Land for being less-than-perfect dolls, Barbie and Ken go on a journey of self-discovery to the real world.”
Out of the blue, Barbie started feeling a little off in her own dream house leading her to lose her powers in Barbie world. This prompts the iconic doll to venture off into the real world and ‘find the truth’ behind her sudden loss of ‘perfection’. Don’t forget Ken, of course.
Barbie ends up transforming into a human by the end of the film and moving in with Gloria (America Ferrera) and her daughter, Sasha (Ariana Greenblatt), and had even asked the gynecologist to give her a vagina at the end.
Because, you know, it's embracing her new life in human form and living in the real world instead of Barbie Land.
Barbie 2 could show how Margot Robbie’s Barbie and Ryan Gosling’s Ken’s lives work outside the relationship they were raised to believe since their beginning existence, since that was how they had actually resolved the ending of the movie.
Barbie 2 could show off Margot Robbie dealing with other real world stuff, but also end up returning to Barbie Land to help her old friends.
Then again, as enticing as a Barbie 2 sounds, the film's ending was pretty much tight enough to secure its ultimate ending. That said, a Barbie sequel sounds far-fetched.
But there is a possibility for spin-offs, maybe. At least?
A reminder: these are all but speculations, of course, as nothing has been confirmed yet for a Barbie 2.
