After the long wait, 2022’s Avatar: The Way of Water has finally snatched its streaming release dates on Disney+ and HBO Max.

Avatar 2 has become franchise director James Cameron’s third film to top on the international and domestic box office, in which the list includes 2009’s Avatar as well as his most popularly known film, Titanic (1998).

Considering how well The Way of Water performed at the box office, the Avatar sequel managed to nab a rare theatrical release in China as well as multiple theatrical extension runs, contributing more earnings to its box office record.

James Cameron’s Avatar franchise has always been a phenomenal part of pop culture.

Though it did send fans into a frenzy of bearing the same name as Avatar: The Last Airbender, Cameron’s films lean more on realism and the usage of high-tech, never-before-seen CGI.

Cameron has been working on the Avatar franchise since its first debut after securing its brand name to his own series.

In fact, so much so that he managed to develop three more Avatar films (which counts up to having a 5th Avatar film), some of which he and the rest of the cast and crew members have already filmed before The Way of Water released.

This is due to the ongoing issues they had to face filming during an ongoing pandemic. Not to mention, the issue of having young child actors grow up 3-5 years more than when they initially filmed the sequels.

While it remains to be seen if the initially proposed premiere dates for Avatars 3-5 will come to fruition amid the WGA strike, you can catch up on an Avatar marathon in the meantime.

Avatar: The Way of Water is set to be released on Disney+ and HBO Max on June 7. Meanwhile, the first Avatar film is streaming on Disney+.
