Recently, Avatar: The Last Airbender animator Giancarlo Volpe has taken his big reveal on Twitter, the reason behind changing their animated show title at the last minute. Check out his tweet below:

As Volpe tweeted, they initially had the idea of Avatar as the lone title for their Nickelodeon show, however, only to find themselves distraught that James Cameron had already claimed rights to the ‘Avatar’ title even prior to his movie release. Volpe continues on to joke on how Cameron’s Avatar sequel is titled ‘The Way of Water’ which is similar to the concept of The Last Airbender’s first season revolving Aang’s first journey by training with the element of water.

To be fair, both Avatar franchises have their own wondrous spin to it that make them unique from one another. Avatar: The Last Airbender revolves around Aang being the last wielder of the air element and his journey to master all four elements of water, earth, fire, and air to defeat the Fire nation. James Cameron’s Avatar, on the other hand, explores a science fiction world where, as the creator admitted it, it was inspired by the sci fi novels he had previously read, which resulted in Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) exploring the world and culture of Pandora where he meets and falls in love with a Na’vi woman named Neytiri (Zoe Saldana). As their bond grows, the two embark on a journey together to fend off their new home.
