Avatar: The Way of Water landed the No. 7 spot on the Top Highest Grossing Films of All Time, beating Top Gun: Maverick’s $1.488 billion with $ 1.713 billion within its early weeks of release. In fact, this has led to releasing Avatar: The Way of Water in more domestic screens, which grants its theatrical longevity and further contribution on its box office spot upon its fourth week! A new report is now also stating that Avatar 2 will also be receiving an extended theatrical run in China.

China may have been limiting their Hollywood and international media consumption, however, in 2022, they had secured a theatrical release of James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, which, of course, contributed to the box office hit we know today. According to Variety, government regulators in China will be screening the Avatar sequel for an additional 30 days in theaters, on top of the previous 30-day installment agreement. This marks Avatar: The Way of Water topping in China’s weekly box office four weeks in a row!

This leads James Cameron having “no choice” but to push forward on working on his next sequels. The Avatar creator had already written the scripts for Avatars 3, 4, and 5, with Avatar 3 featuring fire-wielding Na’vis, and Avatar 5 potentially letting Neytiri and the other Na’vi tribes on what life on earth is like after their exploration of Pandora regions. Spider actor Jack Champion had previously teased that “collectively,” the Avatar franchise gets better every time, aside from more Pandora regions to grace our screens, we will also get to know the darker sides of the Na’vi, in contrast to the Na’vis we have come to know as of current.

Avatar: The Way of Water is still showing in cinemas worldwide.
