Avatar: The Last Airbender Set for 3 New Films at Paramount and Nickelodeon

Avatar: The Last Airbender is on a roll these days. Following the highly anticipated live-action Netflix series, Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon have confirmed that the beloved animated show will be getting three new movies set in the Avatar universe.

The Hollywood Reporter shared the news, confirming that Paramount Pictures and Nickelodeon are planning three new movies based on Avatar: The Last Airbender. It was also confirmed that the show's former storyboard artist and supervising producer Lauren Montgomery will direct the first of the trilogy.

Avatar co-creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino have been confirmed to produce the untitled feature with longtime producing partner Eric Coleman. The new movie will be produced under Avatar Studios, which was formed in 2021 under Nickelodeon.

Details about the films have not yet been revealed but it is believed that they will be completely new stories based in the same universe.

Ramsey Naito, president of animation at Paramount and Nickelodeon Animation, expressed excitement for the new projects.

“As original creators Mike and Bryan expand the Avatar universe with us, we’re keeping it all in the family with Lauren bringing the same kind of expert, beautiful work she did on the original series to her new directing duties on the forthcoming theatrical,” she said.

The new films are a welcome idea for fans who have been hoping to explore more about the Avatar universe. Since the films are set for theatrical release, it would also mean that we will finally get to see some of the beloved Water, Air, Earth, and Fire benders on the big screen all over again.

Avatar: The Last Airbender is also getting a live-action series that is currently in production and will air on Netflix. The show has not yet been given an official release date. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
