Don Cheadle, the lead actor in the series, updated Marvel fans about the production status of Armor Wars. He confirmed that the series is happening and that filming will officially begin in 2023.
Armor Wars 2 Cast: Who are the Actors Included in the Marvel Series?
As of writing, the only confirmed cast member is Don Cheadle, who plays the lead actor of the series, James Rhodes, aka the War Machine.
Cheadle has been a consistent part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe ever since he took the role of Col. James Rhodes in Iron Man 2 when it premiered in 2010. Through the years, he has appeared in various movies and shows, often wearing the War Machine, the suit Tony Stark made for him.
Don Cheadle Completed MCU Contract
When Cheadle spoke with Variety at the 2022 D23 Expo, he confirmed that his contract with Marvel Studios was completed. He also said that he was still open to new projects with MCU.
I’m done with my contracted years in the MCU, so now, it’s just like, if something sounds fun and I’m presented with it, then yeah, let’s go.

Cheadle also talked about his role in the upcoming movie Secret Invasion.
This is a fun one because this sets up what happens in Armor Wars. In the trailer, you see that he’s gonna confront Nick Fury. He and Fury are gonna go at it throughout this show as far as what they need to do, given what’s happened on this planet at this point. It’s kind of a thriller. It’s a different kind of show than you usually see in the MCU, which is great that we continue to change it up and switch it up. It’s a lot of fun.

The Armor Wars series is based on the comic book created by Bob Layton and David Micheline. Yassir Lester, a writer who worked on Making History, The Carmichael Show, and Girls, has been hired as the lead writer for Armor Wars. Kevin Feige will produce the series.
Armor Wars Plot: What Will be the Plot of the Series?
There are still no confirmed plot details for Armor Wars.
In an interview with Comicbook, Cheadle confirmed that Iron Man’s story arc inspires the series by David Michelinie and Bob Layton. It was 7-issue comic book series that was released from December 1987to June 1988, and was called Armor Wars.
In this comic book arc, we see Tony Stary doing everything in his power to undo the damages of his Iron Man designs after the state-of-the-art technology fell into the wrong hands. Iron Man goes after all the armored supervillains who may have taken advantage of the stolen design, including Doctor Doom, Titanium Man, and Justin Hammer.
Since Tony Stark has passed away in the MCU, his death may play a significant role in the new Armor Wars series.

Iron Man May Return in Armor Wars
Because there have been few updates about the Armor Wars, there were rumors the movie was canceled, but this is apparently untrue. The Direct reported that the studio changed the premiere to streaming from theater exclusive and pivoted because they wanted to tell the story the right way.
The cause for the change in direction encouraged a lot of theories, with the most prominent being Tony Starks return, not as a human but as an AI (le gasp!).
Armor Wars will happen right after Secret Invasion
During the D23 Expo, we learn that Armor Wars events occur right after the events of Secret Invasion.
How Many Episodes Will Armor Wars Have?
Armor Wars will have six episodes. While Armor Wars is still not showing, Rhodes and the War Hammer is set to appear in other MCU shows and films like Secret Invasion and Ironheart.
