Aquatope on White Sand Episode 23 Recap
The manager of Tingaara announces an exciting new project; Project Aquatope! True to its mission to be a state-of-the-art aquarium, Tingaara will now be fostering research on ecological concerns and how to tackle them. While working towards this new section, they offer two of their employees the chance to attend a 2-year training programme in Hawaii.
Fuuka, who has been really interested in preserving aquatic life ever since she saw the sea turtles hatching, realizes this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. However, she is unsure, both due to her own fears and due to her unwillingness to leave Kukuru.
As for Kukuru herself, she has a chat with the manager, who asks her if she still wants to become an attendant. Kukuru hesitates. Through the conversation, it's revealed that the assistant manager who had been giving Kukuru a hard time, is, in fact, a bit like her. His previous aquarium ended up shutting down, with devastating effects for some of the animals in it. This experience hardened him, and he promised to never let such a thing happen again. Realising their common goal, Kukuru decides to stay in marketing and help animals through that.
Fuuka is shortlisted as a candidate for the training programme. The next round involves a presentation, and she decides to introduce Ban-chan, the dolphin at the shore. While her presentation is a bit childish, the committee is impressed as Fuuka is the only one who really thought of her audience and her purpose - to educate children about marine life. They decide that she's the one most likely to benefit from the programme and put her name forward.
Fuuka reveals to Kukuru that she's afraid of going, but Kukuru urges her to go. Having grown significantly since Episode 1, she realizes she can't use Fuuka as a cratch. They each have to go their own way, working with the animals they love so much. As Ban-Chan jumps across the moonlit sea, the two have a nearly mystical experience similar to their experience in Gama Gama.
