Aquatope of White Sand returned with a very heartwarming episode. Fuuka has trouble processing her mom's unexpected appearance but the visit offers her an opportunity to finally articulate what she wants.

As the 24-episodeslice-of-life show goes on, I can't help feeling that it's descending into a sweet summer melancholy that has the potential to become quite sad later on, with its focus on coming-of-age themes and ephemerality.

Aquatope of White Sand is the story of Kukuru Misakino, who works as the director of her grandparents' aquarium during the holidays; and Fuuka Miyazawa, who ends up working in the aquarium after failing as an idol.

If you haven't watched Aquatope of White Sand Episode 5, you might want to do so before proceeding. Expect some spoilers below:

When the girls find that Fuuka's mom has come to take her back, Kukuru puts a plan into motion; she immediately sends Fuuka off to stay with some friends and relatives until she can persuade her mother to let her stay longer.

Fuuka makes some friends, while her mother gets to know Kukuru's grandparents and recognizes that the aquarium is beautiful. While on her way to Kukuru's aunt's house, Fuuka suddenly recalls that a fish she had grown fond of is unwell, and goes back for it although the situation with her mom is still in the air.

Kukuru, who is already in the aquarium, tells her that the death of animals is a natural process she has to get used to and they send the already dead fish off together.

Fuuka sees her mom, and tells her she wishes to stay longer. Her mother agrees to let her stay for the rest of the summer and admits that part of the reason why she was worried and disappointed was that Fuuka left home too early to become an idol, so they never had enough time together. Kukuru's family reassure her that they'll take good care of Fuuka.

But Fuuka and Kukuru only have one month together, so whatever they do next will inevitably be mingled with at least some degree of melancholy. Nevertheless, we can't wait to see where this summer journey will take them.

Aquatope of White Sand Episode 6Release Date

Aquatope of White Sand Episode 6, titled "Sweet Rhapsody," is scheduled to air on Friday, the 13th of August for premium Crunchyroll users. Due to time zone differences, many international fans will be able to stream it from the 12th of August.

A dub has not yet been announced but this could change at any point.
