Aquatope of White Sand might be set to run for 24 episodes, but Episode 12 feels very much like a temporary farewell, even if the next episode is only a week away.

The originalslice-of-life work has come a long, long way; Fuuka and Kukuru aren't the same people they used to be at the first episode, and, with Gama Gama now a fallen dream, we can't predict where life is going to take them next.

Kukuru has now accepted that Gama Gama is too close and at least manages to act more gracefully about it. That being said, she's still devastated, all the more so because Fuuka is leaving. An overflow of people arrives to bid Gama Gama farewell, and it's hard not to tear up a bit. The manager of Tingaara, a neighboring aquarium offers Kukuru a job, feeling she has shown good leadership skills but she asks for time to think about it.

The Gama Gama staff host a farewell party and Karin reveals her intention to quit her job as a civil servant and try to work in an aquarium, as Kukuru has inspired her to follow her dream. Just before the closure, Kukuru sees a girl in the glass that looks a lot like her.

When Kukuru tells her grandmother, she finds out that she was actually a twin, but her sister did not survive. Fuuka promises to be Kukuru's big sister, disappointing every yuri fan ever, but it's nevertheless a heartwarming moment. Kukuru takes Fuuka to the airport, but the latter is unable to leave, feeling that Kukuru is too devastated.

On a whim, Fuuka stays one more night to console her friend. She reveals that she won't accept the role in the movie, as she believes her idol dream had ended, and she wants to find a new dream. Kukuru decides that she will try to work for Tingaara.

Overall, this was a bittersweet episode and one that made me cry more than once. We can't wait to find out what the future has in store for our main characters!

Aquatope of White Sand Episode 13 Release Date

Aquatope of White Sand Episode 13 is scheduled to air on Friday, the 1st of October for premium Crunchyroll users. Due to time zone differences, many international fans will be able to stream it from the 30th of September depending on where they are in the world.

A dub has not yet been announced but this could change at any point - the show deserves it.
