No matter how strong these superheroes are, there will always be one thing hindering them from reaching their full potential in battles: their weaknesses. If Superman’s is Kryptonite, and the Flash’s is hunger, what is Aquaman’s biggest weakness(es)?

Aquaman’s Biggest Weaknesses Explained

As you can tell, Arthur Curry is half-human and half-Atlantean. Played by Jason Momoa, the character is physically fit given that his build allows him to move with ease and yet harness his strength in hand-to-hand combat fighting along with his superhuman stamina, speed, and reflexes.

Aquaman’s main powers include communicating with any marine animals, having energy and heat resistance (including dipping into lava), and of course his super senses thanks to inheriting powers he would require underwater.

Atlantean skills such as superhuman hearing and vision allow Aquaman to scope through his environment and use his echolocation to locate the nearest water source to his advantage during his fights.

Given that he is a merman, this also qualifies him to be a great swimmer with the right set of lungs to breathe both underwater and on the surface.

As for Aquaman’s weaknesses, though, much to how the Flash has rapid metabolism thanks to his speed of light, the Atlantean hero can never be left dehydrated.

Water is where he gets his powers and strength from, and since he is a half-breed, this may not be as deadly as portrayed in DC Comics, but there is a chance we might be seeing more of it in the upcoming sequel, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.

Remember how Batman keeps a record of the strengths and weaknesses of every single Justice League hero he's teamed up with?

Well, in the Justice League of America storyline, titled Tower of Babel, the Dark Knight crafted a plan to not only defeat Aquaman but also drive him to suicide - to be afraid of water.

Everyone's afraid of dying by drowning, but Aquaman? It's where he draws his strength and life form. How would he survive?

At the time, Bruce Wayne didn't make the plan to necessarily put it forward, but rather as part of safety measures in case any of his teammates went rogue.

However, this plan failed considering that Wayne's plan was stolen by his arch-nemesis, Ra's al Ghul, who shot Aquaman with fear gas that led the Atlantean hero to grow afraid of any form of water, including ones he could drink in a glass.

Which Characters Have Defeated Aquaman?

There are plenty of other DC characters who could easily beat Aquaman into submission, such as Superman and the Atlantean’s lover, Mera.

Arthur Curry may wield the power of the great bodies of water, but in DC Comics, he has been beaten far more than any fan could realize. It is worth mentioning that most of these losses were committed in an alternate reality, though.

On Earth-11, Aquaman was Aquawoman, who still ruled the city of Atlantis. In that reality, however, Batwoman (Bryce Wayne) was seeking revenge against metahumans after her lover was killed.

Bryce ended up transforming herself into The Drowned, who could fight underwater better than any living Atlantean, including Aquawoman, which led her to her victory of wiping out Atlantis.

Aquaman had also been killed in two other dimensions, one by the hands of Kako’s only son named Narwhal and the other, by Green Arrow. Though, to be fair, the Aquaman version the latter encountered was a zombified one.

But for now, Arthur must face the Black Manta again in the Aquaman sequel. Thriving with power from claiming the black trident, the Black Manta is stronger than ever.

With the help of an unlikely ally, Aquaman must defeat the returning villain to restore peace between the surface world and the people of Atlantis before the formidable foe causes irreversible destruction.
