Aquaman: Jason Momoa Opens Up About The Difficulties in Working on The Lost Kingdom

There is little doubt that Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom is facing a lot of pressure as one of the upcoming DC films and for being a sequel to the wildly successful 2018 movie. However, Jason Momoa isn't concerned about this and is just ready for Aquaman 2's release.

Jason Momoa recently spoke to Men's Health about his upcoming projects and he admitted that he has some frustrations with playing Aquaman. However, he quickly clarified that he has no issues with the character.

“It’s not that I don’t care about Aquaman; it’s a wonderful character,” Momoa said. “Aquaman is probably the hardest character in comic-book history. He’s made fun of and ridiculed, but I tried to give it heart and soul, and I’m proud of it in certain ways.”

He continued by addressing the difficulties of working on a major sequel.

“Do I feel pressure for [the sequel] to do well? No. All I can do is give it my all. But it’s in a lot of other people’s hands,” Momoa said.

So what is all the trouble? Jason Momoa pointed out that there are “different directors having different ideas of who Aquaman is” which presents itself as a major hurdle. He then revealed he had issues with the 50-page treatment he and writer Brian Mendoza wrote for the sequel that Warner Bros. reportedly bought but did not follow completely.

Unfortunately, things like these are part of the development of major sequels to film franchises and Jason Momoa would rather just take it in stride. Either way, we're looking forward to catching up with Arthur Curry in the upcoming sequel.

Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom will also bring back Amber Heard, Willem Dafoe, Patrick Wilson, Dolph Lundgren, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Temuera Morrison, and Nicole Kidman. The film is currently scheduled for theatrical release on December 20, 2023.
