What is Ao Ashi About?

Ao Ashi is a sports anime with soccer as its primary premise. It follows the story of third-year middle school student Ashito Aoi, who lives in Ehime prefecture, in a backwater town in Japan.

Ashito happens to be a talented soccer player with a very straightforward personality. Unfortunately for him and the rest of the team, the very outspoken and straightforward Ashito caused a disastrous incident, leading to their elimination in one of the most important tournaments of his life. Now that his hopes of attending a high school with a good soccer club have gone, how will he achieve his dream?

Fortunately, Aoi’s soccer potential has caught the eyes of J-Club Team Tokyo City Esperion veteran and coach of the youth team, Tatsuya Fukuya. As a result, Tatsuya invites Aoi to try out for J-Club’s youth team in Tokyo.

Ao Ashi anime is set to be released on April 9, 2022, at 6:25 pm Japan Time. Meanwhile, Crunchyroll will simulcast the anime, which means it will be available for international viewers one hour after it has been televised in Japan:

In Japan, the Ao Ashi anime will premiere on the NHK Educational (E Tele) Channel. On the other hand, international viewers will be able to watch the anime on Crunchyroll.

What Studio is Producing Ao Ashi?

Production I.G will work on Ao Ashi’s anime production.

The studio has been famous for producing quality sports anime such as Kuroko’s Basketball, Haikyuu, and New Prince of Tennis. Hence, it is not a surprise that they will take on another sports anime, this time focused on soccer.

Akira Sato is directing the anime and has worked on key animations for shows such as Soul Eater, Deadman Wonderland, and Ergo Proxy. At the same time, Manabu Nakatake and Asuka Yamaguchi are also working as chief animation directors. Meanwhile, Masahiro Yokotani is doing the series composition. In terms of music, Masaru Yokoyama of "Your Lie in April" and "Scum’s Wish" is composing the theme.

On the other hand, Kouki Ohsuzu will voice Ashito Aoi (Pretty Boy Detective Club). He is joined by Maki Kawase (Zombieland Saga: Revenge) as Hana Ichijou and Chikahiro Koyabashi (Beastars) as Fukuda Tatsuya.
