Anya Taylor-Joy Pitches New Video Game Based on Her Popular Movie The Menu

Illumination and Universal’s Nintendo video game adaptation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is currently out in theaters, and despite the mixed reviews, the box office numbers don’t seem to lie about the fact that the film is constantly advancing. According to THR’s new report, the adaptation earned another $26 million at the box office on Thursday, bringing its two-day domestic total to $58.2 million, with a chance to exceed $150 million or more in its five-day launch. With that, Anya Taylor-Joy, who voices Princess Peach in the movie, pitched a new video game based on one of her acclaimed movies, The Menu (2022).

“I think I would pick The Menu because I think it could be like two different games, you could either be one of the guests, and you have to survive, or you have to be a chef, and you have to make all the dishes, and otherwise, you die. I think that’d be great.” Taylor-Joy told IGN.

The Menu follows Chef Julian Slowik (Ralph Fiennes) after he invites a group of wealthy people to a luxurious lunch at his restaurant on the isolated island of Hawthorn, where the crew plans to murder the clients and themselves. The film grossed over $79 million worldwide on a $30 million budget and has garnered favorable reviews from critics since its global premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival on September 10, 2022.

Directed by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic from a screenplay by Matthew Fogel, Super Mario Bros. follows Brooklyn plumbers Mario (Chris Pratt) and Luigi (Charlie Day) when they get separated and taken to the mystical Mushroom Kingdom universe. Aside from Taylor-Joy, Keegan-Michael Key, Jack Black, Seth Rogen, Fred Armisen, Kevin Michael Richardson, and Sebastian Maniscalco also lend their voices to the film. Charles Martinet, who has voiced Mario and Luigi in the Super Mario games for almost three decades, also makes a cameo in the movie.
