Anya Taylor-Joy Names the Next Nintendo Character She'd Like to See in Film

Anya Taylor-Joy is soon to be donning the iconic pink dress of Princess Peach in the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Given that the Nintendo Cinematic Universe is slowly expanding with numerous big-screen adaptations of popular video games finally in the works, Taylor-Joy was recently asked by Yahoo! Entertainment which game or character she would like to see in the film next after Super Mario Bros. got finally released in theaters.

“My partner, I’ve never played it but he was just explaining it to me. My partner really loves Zelda and I think Zelda would be really fun. I knew that there was a new game coming out because everyone seems very excited about it and I’ve never played so I’m kind of scared that I’m gonna get destroyed, so I think I want to know more about Zelda.” said the Queen’s Gambit star.

In January, Giant Freakin Robot wrote in one of their exclusive reports that Illumination, the studio behind the Despicable Me franchise and The Super Mario Bros. Movie, is reportedly developing an animated film adaptation of the action-adventure video game The Legend of Zelda. However, no actual confirmation by the company has been revealed to the public yet. Taylor-Joy isn't the first actor to advocate for a Legend of Zelda movie; last December, Gaten Matarazzo of Stranger Things expressed his desire to see an animated film of Zelda.

In another interview, Taylor-Joy also talked about how her Princess Peach isn't the classic damsel in distress that many people have become accustomed to. The Menu actress also praised the creators for having the same vision as her as well as catering to what the fans would like, which is staying true to the video game's original roots.

“I think we’re all looking for characters that are more 3D and have more going on for them. I think, again, Illumination, Nintendo, and the directors have done such a good job of creating a world that still feels inclusive of those who have loved the game from the beginning. And yet it's fresh. It's new. And if you're not somebody that knows the games very well, you can still have access to it.” explained the actress.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie opens in cinemas on April 5, 2023.
