Emilia Clarke Reacts to Her MCU Debut Announcement in Secret Invasion

Emilia Clarke has summoned a loyal fanbase after she played Daenerys Targaryen in HBO’s hit drama Game of Thrones for almost a decade. Now, her fandom is about to get bigger, as the Me Before You actress recently assumed a role and will soon be making her big screen MCU debut through Marvel Studios' upcoming Disney+ series Secret Invasion.

It was recently announced that Clarke will portray Talos' daughter G'iah in Secret Invasion, ending a long mystery about who she will be in the MCU. In her previous interview with Vanity Fair, the Last Christmas star discussed her character and how she has a "punk feeling" because of her background as a refugee child with Skrull General Talos as her father.

Following the announcement of her mystery MCU role, Clarke then took to Instagram to share a picture of her Skrull character, simply captioned "G'iah. Let the badass-ing begin." The four-time Emmy nominee accompanied her post with a behind-the-scenes shot of her during the production of Secret Invasion. "MARVEL BABY!!!!!! I couldn’t be prouder of this badass show; buckle up kids, it’s about to get real." Clarke captioned Secret Invasion's latest trailer, which she also shared on her Instagram profile.

In a past interview with Collider, the MCU newcomer detailed her first-time experience tackling a role in a superhero franchise. “It’s mind-boggling. I’ve got to tell you that how those shows and films are created is mind-boggling. It’s like everyone at Marvel knows how to unlock the Rubik’s cube, and you couldn’t even possibly — I can’t do a Rubik’s Cube to save my damn life.” she said.

It's unclear how Clarke's G'iah fits into Secret Invasion; however, she's said to be a “spy with powers,” Clarke has stated her desire to return to her MCU character in the future despite not fully debuting her role yet, and she is even willing to spend a whole decade in the franchise, as others have done before her.

Secret Invasion premieres on June 21, 2023, exclusively on Disney+.
