Ant-Man 3 Director Confirms Popular Fan Theory About MODOK

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania will feature the MCU debut of MODOK, a beloved character from Marvel Comics due to its obscure and bizarre nature since its physical figure consists of a giant head. A lot of fans have been wondering about what the MCU version of the character will look like.

There have been rumors and popular fan theories around the web that the MCU iteration of MODOK is the same as Darren Cross/Yellowjacket from the first film since the character is also played by Corey Stoll. However, Marvel Studios remained mum about it until now.

However, in a recent review with Screen Rant, Quantumania director Peyton Reed finally confirmed the fan theory that MODOK and Yellowjacket are indeed the same characters, ending the speculation ever since the character's appearance was revealed in the new film.

First, Reed revealed that they were planning to introduce MODOK in live-action for years now.

"We talked a lot about, as we were developing the story, MODOK has been waiting in the wings, I think, for a while, you know? I know there’s been, Stephen Broussard would know this better than me, but there have been conversations for other movies about, can MODOK fit in here? What would that look like in live action?," he said.

When the team wanted to include the character in the new film, Reed realized that having Yellowjacket become MODOK in the Quantum Realm will become their way of having Kang become familiar with the existence of the Ant-Family.

He continued, "But then we hit on an idea of, as we were going to bring our family into the Quantum Realm in contact with Kang, how could Kang know about the Ant-Family? And then it occurred to me that, you know, what happens to Yellowjacket at the end of the first Ant-Man. It’s like.... And it dawned on me, like, what if… And I pitched the idea to Stephen Broussard and then to Kevin [Feige], and we ran with it."

After the idea was improved, Reed called Stoll about the role and the actor gave an enthusiastic response about the idea regarding his return to the MCU.

"And I remember calling Corey Stoll and sort of talking to him about what if this happened, and him giggling on the other line. It’s like, ‘If you guys do that, I’m in.’ He loved it, cause he’s a comics nerd too. But yeah, we were able to do it, and I’m thrilled. It’s such a crazy, crazy thing to have in this movie," Reed shared.

It is exciting to hear the confirmation that MODOK and Yellowjacket are just the same characters and it sounds like this is something that we can really look forward to in the new film. Now, it's curious to see how he'll play into the story and his response when he sees the Ant-Family again.
