Angelina Jolie played the role of Thena in her first Marvel movie, The Eternals. Prior to the film’s release, there were hopes that the project would generate massive revenues because it’s one of the movies released in theaters amid the pandemic.
According to Variety, The Eternals opened with a $71 million revenue, which was just $4 to $9 million less than the initial estimates. Weeks later, The Eternals reportedly passed $300 million in worldwide box office revenue, according to Forbes.
Angelina Jolie Worried About Her Popularity
National Enquirer, in its Nov. 29 issue, claimed that Jolie’s latest movie flopped that's why the actress couldn’t help but think that she’s no longer as famous as she once was.
There are also claims that Jolie’s movies have not been faring well in terms of revenue and ratings because a lot of people sided with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt following their divorce and their ongoing custody battle.
“Angelina thought this movie would be a huge hit and put her back on the map. Instead, it’s been a big disappointment compared to other Marvel movies. Angie is crushed and mortified,” an unnamed source said.
The insider added that The Eternals not generating its estimated opening revenue proves that Jolie’s popularity has slipped. However, it is important to note that Jolie isn’t the only actor in the movie.
But the source insisted that Jolie’s film, Those Who Wish Me Dead didn’t also fare well and it only generated a $2.8 million revenue during its opening weekend. Maleficent: Mistress of Evil earned $250 million less compared to Maleficent.

“Angelina Jolie is putting up a good show, trying to hide how scared she is that her days of being a big box office draw are fading,” the unnamed source said.

A second source named Dr. Carole Lieberman, who is reportedly a psychiatrist, said that Jolie’s treatment of Pitt must have affected the public’s adorating for the actress.
“Another reality she’s been refusing to face is how cruel she’s been to Brad in the custody battle. It’s now coming back to haunt her,” Lieberman said.
Angelina Jolie Encouraged Her Kids To Testify Against Brad Pitt
One of the reasons why Jolie is accused of being cruel to Pitt is because she reportedly encouraged her children to testify against their dad in court.
According to Page Six, the previous judge that handled Jolie and Pitt’s custody battle didn’t allow the exes’ three eldest children to testify against their dad. However, a source told the publication that this wasn’t necessarily the case. After all, the children’s voices were heard.
“The lengthy, detailed decision relied upon expert testimony from people who the kids spoke to during the process, so their voices actually were considered,” the source said.
Another source claimed that Jolie was willing to fight for her children’s rights to testify against their dad amid claims of domestic abuse.

But during her interview with The Guardian, Jolie suggested that she’s ready to bury the hatchet with her ex-husband. The actress said that she just wants her whole family to heal, including Pitt.
“It’s not that I want to talk about anything really, because I just want my family to heal. And I want everyone to move forward – all of us, including their dad. I want us to heal and be peaceful. We’ll always be a family,” Jolie said.
