Andrew Garfield Claims He Won't Be Playing Spider-Man Again

A lot of fans cheered and roared in the theaters when Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire made their much-awaited return in Spider-Man: No Way Home. For the past several weeks, fans have been wondering if the two former Spider-Man actors will be playing the character again in another future film now that there's a lot of interest to see them in the role for another extended period of time. But now, it looks like that won't be happening for one of them.

Speaking to Variety during the red carpet at the 28th Screen Actors Guild Awards, where he is nominated for Best Actor for his performance in Tick, Tick... Boom!, Garfield was asked if we'll ever see him play Spider-Man again in the future to which he responded, "No plans, that’s the truth. Everyone’s gonna call me a liar for the rest of my life. I’m the boy who cried wolf."

Of course, prior to the release of No Way Home, Garfield denied for months that he is going to show up in the film even though he did eventually make an appearance with Maguire. There's a chance that he might be lying about it for now (which he acknowledged that it might be the case) since he signed an NDA or Sony and Marvel didn't allow him to currently address any future news regarding his potential next appearance on the role.

It is very likely that Garfield is telling the truth here since we really haven't heard any official news from Sony or Marvel Studios that they have plans to bring back Garfield again in a future film and No Way Home might be the swan song for the actor on the role. However, that is not the case for Maguire who has been rumored that he will be playing Spider-Man again in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness thanks to some evidence uncovered by fans online. Of course, we have to wait and see for now if that is actually true.

While it is sad that we might not be able to see Garfield on the role again, at least he got his closure in No Way Home. Of course, things could still change in the future and there is still a little chance that Garfield will change his mind and potentially explore the idea of playing the role again if ever Sony asked him.
