Spider-Man Actress Kirsten Dunst on Returning as Mary Jane Watson: "There's Still Time."

Spider-Man: No Way Home paved the way for the meeting of the three renditions of the titular character in one film and the whole fandom broke down seeing all of them at once, working together and fighting each other’s villains. However, their love interests weren’t present. For Tobey Maguire, it was Kirsten Dunst who played Mary Jane Watson and when asked if she would be returning, her cheeky reply teases the possibility: “There’s still time.”

As Spider-Man: No Way Home opened the multiverse in different magnitudes, bringing in villains from the previous iterations of Spider-Man and the versions of Spider-Man as well with Tom Holland meeting with Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, the question of whether the films of their respective franchises would have more which includes their possible reunion with their love interests.

Spider-Man: No Way Home really pushed the button for the fans and they are dying to know if Sony would bring back the Spider-Man movies of Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. Both of them would love to reprise their roles for Spider-Man 4 and The Amazing Spider-Man 3. As for Kirsten Dunst who played Mary Jane Watson, when asked for her return in an interview with Deadline, she seems to be heading the same direction as Maguire.

Dunst expressed her interest to come back as Mary Jane Watson should there be a Spider-Man 4 coming along the way, "There's still time. I mean, listen, no one's asked me about anything, but I do think that, I mean, this Multi Universe keeps going on and on so I feel like that could happen. I know nothing, by the way."

Kirsten Dunst first appeared as Mary Jane Watson in Spider-Man (2002) under the direction of Sam Raimi. She reprised her role in Spider-Man 2 and Spider-Man 3 as the love interest of Peter Parker but the last of the trilogy ended with no closure between Mary Jane and Peter. In Spider-Man: No Way Home, Maguire’s Peter Parker hinted that he was in a complicated relationship and somehow, still making it work.

Is this a hint that Mary Jane Watson and Peter Parker’s relationship worked out in the end? If given another shot, both Dunst and Maguire are open to the thought of coming back for their roles, however, the question remains unanswered with Sony not yet confirming whether there would be a Spider-Man 4 film coming.

Spider-Man: No Way Home will be out on digital sales and rental platforms on March 22, 2022. The film will be out on Blu-ray and DVD on April 11.
