Alice in Borderland was released a year ahead of Squid Game, but it didn't garner much attention. The success of the Korean survival TV series also boosted the Japanese TV series' popularity because they both have the same plot — surviving deadly games.
Those who haven't gotten over Squid Game watched Alice in Borderland to experience the same thrill, fun, and suspense. With Alice in Borderland Season 2 coming soon, here are the cast that will likely return in the sequel.
Kento Yamazaki As Ryōhei Arisu — The Lead Star In Alice In Borderland
Arisu is the lead star in the series, who seems to have no ambition but play video games all day. He has two best friends Chota and Karube, who died during the game of hearts, which involved manipulation and betrayal.
Before starring in Alice in Borderland, Yamazaki, 27, is known for playing in the Japanese version of Freddie Highmore's The Good Doctor. He also played as L in the live-action adaptation of the top-rated manga series Death Note.
Tao Tsuchiya as Yuzuha Usagi
Usagi is very close with her dad in the series. They used to climb mountains together, which helped her physically and mentally strong an advantage whenever she hits the field to play the deadly games. Usagi saved Arisu when the latter lost hope and wanted to die after losing his friends.
Tsuchiya, 26, is known for her role in the manga adaptations My Little Monster, Kasane: Beauty and Fate, and Waiting for Spring. She was featured in the 2020 drama film Food Luck and 2017 film The 8-Year Engagement, which was based on an autobiographical book by Hisashi Nishizawa and Mai Nakahara.
Nijirō Murakami plays Shuntarō Chishiya
Chishiya is clever and skilled. He seemed to have an idea about the game. He crossed paths with Arisu and Usagi as he worked on uncovering the secrets behind the strange game. His character is so mysterious that the audience is drawn to know him more.
Murakami, 24, has a host of movie projects on his cards. He previously starred in critically acclaimed movies, including Still the Water (2014), Ruruoni Kenshin: The Beginning (2021), As the Gods Will (2014), The Promised Land (2019), and more.
Aya Asahina as Hikari Kuina
Kuina is a transgender person who was trained by her father to perfect martial arts. However, she couldn't deliver the decisive blow on her opponent. But she eventually learned the lesson her dad wanted her to absorb when she fought and defeated the Last Boss. Kuina teams up with Chishiya, and the pair eventually works with Arisu and Usagi when the two arrive on the Beach.
Asahina, 28, is the lead actress in the airline drama Runway 24 and drama series Girl Gun Lady.
Ayaka Miyoshi plays Ann Rizuna
Ann is an intelligent, well-spoken, and pragmatic idealist who doesn't believe in violence. She is well-known for her being calm and collective. She is a forensic scientist in the police department specializing in fingerprint analysis. In the Witch-Hunt game, she was able to deduce that the victim and the suspect are one because the victim committed suicide.
Miyoshi, 25, recently appears in the Japanese action flick Inuyashiki and musical Dance With Me.
Riisa Naka as Mira Kano
Mira is a mysterious woman who stands out because of her long, straight dark hair with bangs. She also wears dark-colored clothes. Alice in Borderland Season 1 ended with a shock: Mira turned out to be part of the game. Many things will unfold about the character when she returns in the second season.
Before her casting on Alice in Borderland, Naka, 31, was a regular cast member in Yell, a drama series broadcast on Japanese TV network NHK.
Netflix hasn't revealed the official release date of Alice in Borderland Season 2. However, the series is expected to arrive before the year ends.
