There is little doubt that Sabine Wren's live-action debut is one of the most highly anticipated highlights of Ahsoka. Not surprisingly, Natasha Liu Bordizzo is hyping up her character's arrival, teasing how Sabine's discovery of a particular lightsaber is just part of her journey.
In the Ahsoka trailer, we only get to see Sabine watching a hologram of Ezra Bridger. However, the unreleased footage from the upcoming Star Wars series actually features Sabine wielding a familiar-looking green lightsaber.
While speaking to Empire magazine, Natasha Liu Bordizzo didn't confirm whether the lightsaber belongs to Ezra (via Collider). However, she did admit that wielding it was a huge part of her preparation for the role.
"I'm just really glad that's out there. It's been really hard talking about my fight-training without talking about the fact that it's 'saber-training, which is literally all I've been doing for so long," Bordizzo said.
"The Mandalorian [physicality] is very Western, and then the 'saber style is very samurai-influenced," she added.
"Trying to embody those two things - sometimes one right after the other - in the choregraphy was super interesting, because they're such different modes of being," Bordizzo continued.
"I really had fun with the journey of trying to master both," she concluded.
Natasha Liu Bordizzo went on to offer some insight on what happens to Sabine.
"What can I tease?" she ponders. "It's just part of her journey. Not just the 'saber itself, but what comes with that, and what that means, and what mindset it takes to wield that weapon."
Ahsoka will also star Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader, Eman Esfandi as Ezra Bridger, Ray Stevenson as Baylan Skoll, Ivanna Sakhno as Shin Hati, and Lars Mikkelsen as Grand Admiral Thrawn.
The new Star Wars series will premiere on Disney+ in August 2023.
