Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson recently opened up about his decision to join the Sony movie.

The film is set to be the next installment in the divisive Sony's Spider-Man Universe franchise and it will also mark the big-screen debut of the fan-favorite villain.

However, considering the reception of Madame Web and the other previous releases in the franchise, there have been concerns from fans regarding whether the film will be able to live up to the hype and quality.

Speaking with Rolling Stone, Taylor-Johnson addressed his decision to star in Sony's Kraven the Hunter movie.

He explained that, despite the oversaturation of superhero movies, he felt that the character was unique enough that he could bring something special to the project that would satisfy the audience.

"I think there was something unique about this character, and something grounded," the actor said.

"We’ve all had enough of seeing certain studio films, a certain kind of pop culture… where they’re churning out stuff that dilutes wanting to go to the cinema. I wouldn’t have signed onto it if I felt there wasn’t something to really bring to life with this character."

However, Taylor-Johnson also acknowledged the challenges of starring in a Sony/Marvel movie since he also has to appease the studio and the producers who are building the franchise.

"Taking on a Sony/Marvel movie is a different challenge altogether. There’s the story, the character, the role; that’s one thing. But then you also step into a world where you’re dealing with a studio and a franchise — or possible franchises, though let’s not get ahead of ourselves," he said.

"So, they’re rolling the dice on me, in a sense, which is a lovely thing. But you’ve got to appease the studio, please the audience and do what’s dignified for you as an actor. I find all of that super challenging."

Following the negative reception of Madame Web, a lot of fans have started to question the future of Sony's Spider-Man Universe franchise and wonder whether the other releases this year will end up being disappointments as well.

There is still some hope that Kraven the Hunter will be able to live up to the hype and defy expectations. Taylor-Johnson's comments could bring some encouragement to the fans who are doubtful about the film.

Kraven the Hunter is set to arrive in theaters this August 30.
