Star Wars: Episode IX Might Reveal Finn’s Parents Instead Of Rey’s

Star Wars: The Last Jedi might have revealed Rey's (Daisy Ridley) parents as drunk junkers that abandoned her as a child, but fans continue to hold on to the hope that the Jakku Orphan will eventually be revealed as the secret daughter of a legacy character – possibly Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) or Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). However, while some continue to hope for a Rey parentage retcon in Star Wars: Episode IX, a new rumor suggests that the film might actually focus on the roots of a very different character: Finn (John Boyega).

According to a new speculation piece by Inverse,Episode IX could subvert fan expectations by revealing Finn's parents instead of Rey's, tying the stormtrooper-turned-resistance-fighter to a Star Wars fan-favorite character. The name? Lando Calrissian.

Finn being the secret son of Lando might not be as exciting as Rey being the secret daughter of Darth Plagueis, but honestly, it'd be a pretty decent reveal. After all, what do we really know about Finn and his childhood? The character was conscripted by the First Order when he was young and he can barely remember anything about his family. Lando would fit in perfectly.

Okay, okay. It might seem like lazy writing, but if Episode IX's writers were to weave the lines carefully, having Finn learn more about his parentage could actually be a pretty interesting twist for the film – though that might actually rob the Resistance Fighter of his own agency in the franchise. Not to mention that it wouldn't really fit in with Finn's journey in TFA and TLJ.
