It's been a while since Stan Lee's passing, but Marvel fans and stars still remember the Marvel Comic Book Legend, honoring his legacy and memory with stories and anecdotes about the things Stan the Man did while he was alive.
Appearing on The Howard Stern Show for an interview, Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. decided to talk about various things about the MCU – addressing Martin Scorcesese's comments about Marvel movies, discussing his role in the franchise, and then about his time with Stan Lee. The Marvel star was asked whether or not he got the chance to say goodbye to the Marvel Legend before he passed away last November, and so Downey Jr. decided to share a story about the time he worked with Stan the Man for his cameo in Captain America: Civil War.
"One of the last times I saw him, we were shooting Civil War," Downey told Stern, "And in his cameo, that day was he's, I think a UPS delivery man, and he had a great line. He goes, 'I have a package for Tony Stank.'"
"That was one of the last times I saw him," he continued. "And the crazy thing was -- he said that on the first take, he nailed it -- then they go, 'Alright, resetting, let's do it again.' And after that, he started saying, 'I have a package for Robert, uhh...' And I said, 'Oh my god it's wild, even the guy who created the character thinks of me in a moment where he's talking about the character... This is so meta. Stan Lee is forgetting who I am in this moment."
That cameo in Civil War is often considered to be one of the comic book writer's most memorable appearances in the MCU. We're grateful that we've gotten to hear RDJ's story about the cameo behind the scenes of it all.
Right now, RDJ may have retired from the MCU, however, fans are hoping that the Iron Man star makes an appearance in Scarlett Johannson's upcoming Black Widow movie.
Black Widow is set to premiere on May 1, 2020.
