The Legend of Zelda: Future Games Will Keep Open-World Mechanics

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was an outstanding game, impressing players with its seamless open-world structure and refined gameplay mechanics. It definitely broke away from the Zelda formula fans was familiar with, whilst also improving some traits that did return. Since the game was a huge hit with fans, it shouldn't be too surprising to know that Nintendo will be keeping the open-world structure for newer games.

During an interview with IGN, producer Eiji Aonuma essentially confirmed that the game's huge open-world would return in future games. Granted, we'll probably get different locations since each Zelda game focuses on a new incarnation of Link. Plus, no one wants to buy a new game and play in the same old world as the previous one.

Here is Aonuma's statement:

"You know, I can't speak to what other people, other companies will do in their own games, but I think for me, especially just in terms of the Zelda series, the incredible freedom that this game offers you and how well that's been received…to me, it means that freedom, that level of freedom is something that needs to be maintained in Zelda games going forward. My eyes have been opened to how important that is."

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is available now on the Nintendo Switch and Wii U.
