Super Mario Odyssey was just released a few days ago for the Nintendo Switch, and it has already become the fastest-selling Mario game ever in two major territories, Nintendo announced.
1.1 million copies were sold in the U.S. market alone, surpassing launch sales of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In Europe, Odyssey also eclipsed Super Mario Galaxy 2's opening weekend sales, but no specific number was revealed.
This isn't really surprising since it was reported a few days ago that 2 million copies of the game were sold in its first three days, a feat that took Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild a month to achieve. The game has also received many perfect score reviews from major publications, and many players have expressed how much they love the New Donk City setting.
Hearing about how great the game is makes me want to buy a Nintendo Switch. I'm glad the Mario franchise still thrives, and its success will most likely continue.
