Star Wars: Colin Trevorrow's Episode IX Script Tried to Fix a Major Leia Plot Hole

There are a lot of plot holes littered all over Star Wars' Skywalker Saga. For instance, Leia Organa somehow revealed to Luke Skywalker that she remembered their mother although Padme Amidala died right after they were born. Needless to say, this little detail has kept fans wondering how Leia had that memory. Interestingly, it has been revealed that Colin Trevorrow's original plans for Episode IX attempted to fix the plot hole.

Trevorrow was initially set to direct Episode IX before being removed from the project due to creative differences. Nevertheless, the filmmaker has shared his plans for the movie, which was supposed to be titled Duel of the Fates. Amazingly, the script Trevorrow had penned addressed the Leia plot hole by making it clear that R2-D2 knew everybody's dirty little secrets.

In the original screenplay, Artoo was supposed to get hit by a cannon blast and would be needing some major repair. While the droid is being repaired, Leia reinserts the intact memory drive, which helps in fixing R2-D2. Interestingly, the droid is supposed to sift through its memories by chronological order and one of the images it produces is that of Padme and Anakin Skywalker falling in love.

So how should this help with the plot hole? According to Screenrant, there is a possibility that both Artoo and C-3PO were in close proximity to Leia while she was growing up in Alderaan. This would have given her the chance to look into R2-D2's memories and help her know more about Padme.

It's a hopeful idea that would have fixed that Return of the Jedi plot hole. Sadly, we'll never get to see that happen since Episode IX was handed over to J.J. Abrams and became Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
