James Gunn Teases Guardians of the Galaxy Spin-Off Series Focusing on the Ravagers

There is little doubt that people are still expecting the Ravagers to play an important role in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. After all, one of the mid-credits scenes focused on the characters deciding to get together for an adventure.

Not surprisingly, James Gunn is also eager to see more of the Ravagers in the future. The Suicide Squad director has just teased on a possible Marvel Cinematic Universe series following Stakar Ogord and his team.

Gunn recently guested on the Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote The Suicide Squad but he also talked about his future with Marvel. For instance, he revealed that he "always thought The Ravagers would be a great show" and that it's one he is still hoping to pursue in some capacity.

"Whether that was with Sly Stallone's Ravagers or even more in-depth with just the pirates and what they were doing," Gunn said. He then added that he has already pitched the plan to Marvel boss Kevin Feige.

"I told Kevin Feige that when he first visited set when we were on the Ravagers ship for Guardians 1, I said we should make a Ravagers show. He said if this movie's a hit you can do whatever you want," Gunn said.

This is exciting to know but Gunn is quick to point out that his pitch has yet to be greenlighted. "Still no Ravagers show, so I don't know what happened," he said.

There have been speculations that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would actually focus on the original Guardians comic book line-up led by Stakar who have since become Ravagers. However, it looks like the sequel will still feature the current Guardians.

The Guardians turned Ravagers were made up of Stakar Ogord (Sylvester Stallone), Aleta Ogord (Michelle Yeoh), Martinex (Michael Rosenbaum), Charlie-27 (Ving Rhames), Mainframe (Miley Cyrus), and Krugarr. It is still unclear if they will return in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

Gunn's The Suicide Squad will premiere in theaters and on HBO Max on August 5, 2021. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is expected to begin production before the end of the year and is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
