While it's not one of the most anticipated series of the new season, this is still a series that I personally can't wait to watch. Animated by SHAFT and originally written by Nisio Isin, this is certain to be a surreal series much like the entire Monogatari franchise was. The majority of the series ran between October 2015 and December 2019, but a new volume (volume 12) was recently revealed to be released in May 2021. Vertical has been releasing the volumes in English since September 2020 and has released 2 volumes as of December 2020 (volume 3 will be released in April 2021).

In this series, the story is all about the Pretty Boy Detective Club, which uses Yubiwa Academy middle school as their base of operations. Motivated by beauty rather than money, this mysterious club of very pretty boys will solve the problems of students at this school (even if they created the problem, to begin with). The first case that the boys take on in this series will feature a young girl named Mayumi Dojima, who has lost a star that she once saw ten years earlier.

Pretty Boy Detective Club has been announced to stream on Crunchyroll outside of Japan. No other sites, including Funimation or Netflix, have revealed plans to stream this one.

Pretty Boy Detective Club looks like it's going to be true to form for both SHAFT and director Akiyuki Simbo. I can only hope that it works half as well on the television screen as it does in my imagination!
