Magic: The Gathering Netflix Animated Series Reveals Sneak Peek, Coming in 2022


Today, Netflix and Wizards of the Coast have announced that the upcoming Magic: The Gathering animated series will be released in 2022, and they revealed some visual previews during the Magic Showcase 2021 stream to get fans of the trading card game hyped.

Netflix has revealed a sneak peek at the Gideon character model, and MTG fans would know that Gideon is one of the most iconic planeswalkers in the lore of Magic. Wizards and Netflix also announced that Superman actor Brandon Routh is the voice of Gideon.

It was also revealed that the Magic: The Gathering animated adaptation will expand on the events about how Gideon and Jace bond.

They also revealed the environmental art for the Golgari's territory in Ravnica.

Originally announced last year, Netflix's animated Magic: The Gathering series was initially executive-produced by the Avengers: Endgame directors, Joe and Anthony Russo, but according to the report, the Russos and their team departed early in the process over creative differences on how to best adapt Magic: The Gathering.

Neflix recently tapped Jeff Cline (Transformers: Prime) to lead the new creative team with Co-Executive Producer and Story Editor Steve Melching (Star Wars: Clone Wars), Supervising Director Audu Paden, Art Ddirector Izzy Medrano and Writers Nicole Dubuc, Russell Sommer & Dan Frey.
