How Game of Thrones, The Mandalorian, and WW84 Catapulted Pedro Pascal to A Top Star


Stardom never comes overnight for some people, this includes Chilean actor Pedro Pascal. The 45-year-old actor has steadily built his career where he used his experience in the theater and carve out his path as an actor in Hollywood. Some of his break out roles were in Game of Thrones and Netflix's Narcos. He has also become a part of Wonder Woman 1984 and The Mandalorian.

Game of Thrones

Pedro Pascal started making buzz after he played the role of the Red Viper, also known as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones Season 4 (2014). His career started to blossom when he took on this role. The Red Viper was one of the series' most memorable supporting characters due to his undeniable charm. His gruesome death at the hands of The Mountain in season 4 was also one of the most memorable scenes in the entire series.

It was his friends who helped him get in front of Game of Thrones showrunner David Benioff. The producer said that Pascal can figure out who the character really is and portrays it well, removing any falsehood. Benioff even added that Pascal is really handsome as well.

Netflix's Narcos

Netflix's Narcos (2015) was the next series where Pascal was able to showcase his acting chops. He played the role of Dru agent Javier Peña. The character was inspired by the real-life DEA agent with the same name. He was a former American DEA agent and was a part of the Search Bloc. He was sent to Colombia to hunt down the Cali Cartel, Pablo Escobar, and Medellin Cartel.

The MandalorianPascal's popularity exploded when he became the titular character which was first launched on November 12, 2019. The series is very popular that developed a huge following globally. Pascal is charismatic and handsome as Benioff stated but it was irrelevant when it came to the masked character in the hit Disney+ series.

Jon Favreau, the creator of The Mandalorian, was the one who came up with the idea of how the character's charm will emanate in the series. Pascal is an athletic actor who played the dangerous and charismatic characters in both Game of Thrones and Narcos. Actor Dave Filoni talked about Pascal stating, "He can be charming and intense. All this street cred for fighting, you believe that. The Mandalorian is not a man of many words. That's part of his charm. What he says is more meaningful, as he gets fond of the kid."

Wonder Woman 1984

Despite the pandemic closing down many theaters worldwide, the film managed to nab a good amount of overseas box office returns and also gained attention when it was released. Pascal was able to pull-off a villain character with Maxwell Lord but made it accessible which allowed viewers to understand his viewpoint.

Pascal just finished filming a film with Nicolas Cage for 2021 titled, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
