Gina Carano Dragged Into Star Wars Tweet About Martin Luther King Jr.

The Star Wars franchise have experienced their own fair share of challenges and issues in recent years. One of the most latest is the depiction of diverse character in the sequel trilogy of its films titled, Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015), Star Wars: Episode VIII – The Last Jedi (2017), and Star Wars Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker (2019).

Now, Star Wars is once again facing social media backlash as a result of their tweet last January 18, 2021. In a tweet shared to the franchise's official Twitter account, they posted a heartwarming tribute to Martin Luther King Jr. The tribute said, There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right." —Martin Luther King, Jr.

To some people, this may not be a big deal but there were fans who are quick to call out Star Wars. One of the issues was when Kelly Marie Tran, the actress for Rose Tico stated that she left social media and needed therapy following Rian Johnson's The Last Jedi backlash. Aside from this, actor John Boyega who played Finn, an ex-stormtrooper spoke out after feeling sidelined as the black character in Star Wars.

These issues are why some fans are mad about the Star Wars tweet. Some of the tweets called out Star Wars for not protecting or defending Kelly Marie Tran from the racist attacks she received. While others stated that Star Wars even reduced Boyega's role in the movies.

The Mandalorian actress, Gina Carano who plays Cara Dune in the hit Disney+ series did not escape the scrutiny. One of the tweets particularly mentioned that hopefully Boyega, Tran, and Oscar Isaac are laughing in the chat room due to Star Wars' MLK tweet, adding, "This is especially worthless when Gina Carano is still employed by you."

Carano has been on the receiving end of the backlash due to her different views with some people accusing her of being a racist. The actress stands firm on her views while remaining open for discussion as she previously mentioned in the past. Dragging the actress into this mix is seemingly a stretch as the cancel culture is willing to pounce at any given moment.
