Chris Evans Has No Idea on Reports About His MCU Return as Captain America

Headlines previously circulated that Chris Evans is poised to come back in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America. The report came in a time where the role already had come to a conclusion in the Avengers: Endgame. However, the actor seemingly pumped the brakes on the news that he will be reprising the iconic role.

Evans addressed the increasing hype and rumors that may be returning to his role as Captain America in a future Marvel Cinematic Universe film, in a tweet that was sent on Thursday, January 14. On the tweet, Evan simply wrote the words, "news to me." This tweet is likely a response to an exclusive Deadline report.

Deadline cited some unnamed sources who stated that Evans may be following the footsteps of Robert Downey Jr. when he appeared as Iron Man in movies where his character was not the main focus.

Evans didn't go into any detail regarding the report, while Marvel did not respond to any request for comment. The idea of Evans' possible return and even his apparent denial, really stuck to the fans. At the time of writing, his tweet has over 260k likes and 25.5k retweets.

Before the actor's response, Captain America's fans were intrigued by the idea of having the character return and debated how it could happen. Some fans even explained that Steve Rogers traveled back in time in Endgame, and returning to the timeline as a senior citizen where he is living his life with Peggy Carter. Some fans are not too bothered about the timeline and would love to welcome the actor back to his iconic role.

In 2018, Evans seemed to have closed the door on playing Captain America when he tweeted, "Officially wrapped on Avengers 4. It was an emotional day, to say the least. Playing this role over the last 8 years has been an honor. To everyone in front of the camera, behind the camera, and in the audience, thank you for the memories! Eternally grateful."

Evans played steve Rogers as Captain America in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). He played the character more times on The Avengers (2012), Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014), Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015), Captain America: Civil War (2016), Avengers: Infinity War (2018), and Avengers: Endgame, as well as a cameo in other MCU films.
