Warner Bros. Pictures finally unveiled the impressive first look at the live-action MortalKombat reboot and while fans and gamers alike were pretty sold with the grittiness and sheer brutality they saw in the trailer, a lot of people weren't pleased over the fact that the studio seemingly omitted a popular character from the hit video game series.
The jaw-dropping trailer featured appearances from legendary fighters like Sub-Zero and Scorpion, as well as a few notable characters like Sonya Blade, Kano, Mileena, Jax Briggs, and newcomer Cole Young. But much to the chagrin of the majority of fans, Johnny Cage who has been a Mortal Kombat staple since 1992 was nowhere to be seen.
The film's producers have yet to address the status of the character but considering how stacked the project already looks like, it's safe to assume that Cage won't be appearing in the reboot — not yet, at least. Of course, he could still totally turn up in the sequel which is almost guaranteed to happen, and assuming that WB still hasn't found their guy, some fans believe that they won't have to look any further.
Recently crowned WWE Champion Mike "The Miz" Mizanin took to Twitter to express his interest in playing Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat 2. It all began when a random fan posted a photo of the character which he believes resembles the wrestling superstar. Check it out here:
It's not the first time The Miz has shown his desire to play an iconic character. A couple of years back, he lobbied to get cast as Booster Gold in the DCEU and although a lot of fans were also behind the idea, WB has yet to offer him the role for the project which has reportedly been under development for quite some time now.
The new Mortal Kombat film looks pretty promising and I genuinely hope it becomes a massive success but judging by the stuff we saw from the trailer, it's already looking pretty superior to that awful MK film that premiered in the '90s so that alone is a great thing.
Mortal Kombat is slated for release in select cinemas and on HBO Max on April 16, 2021.
