It can't be denied that fans and gamers alike were skeptical about Warner Bros. Pictures' 2021 reboot of Mortal Kombat and quite frankly, they have all the reason in the world to be since the '90s adaptation of the film ended up as a huge letdown. Generally speaking, films based on iconic video games have always had an underwhelming track record.

However, upon seeing the first official trailer for Mortal Kombat, people seemed to have gained a renewed hope for the project and OG fans of the video game series were pretty pleased that it turned out just like the game — dark, gritty, and hella gruesome and so far, the project is showing a tremendous amount of promise.

The trailer gave us our first look at iconic characters like Sub-Zero and Scorpion, as well as a few notable characters like Sonya Blade, Mileena, and Jax Briggs. It also features the debut of a new character named Cole Young.

Naturally, fans went absolutely berserk after seeing all the brutality in the trailer and the epic showdown between Sub-Zero and Scorpion. However, the final moments of the trailer left a lot of people bewildered with the appearance of what seems to be a new creature from outside the video games. Towards the end of the trailer, Kano "fatalities" a mysterious creature that almost looks like a humanoid reptilian.

While we've yet to get confirmation regarding the identity of the said creature, judging by his physical appearance alone, it's safe to assume at this point that it could be a reimagined version of another iconic Mortal Kombat fighter Reptile. I mean, I believe it's a dead giveaway. However, if it is indeed the ruthless Syzoth, why doesn't he resemble his video game counterpart? That's a question that needs answering ASAP.

Mortal Kombat is slated for release in select cinemas and on HBO Max on April 16, 2021.
