A few months removed from The Mandalorian Season 2's grand finale and fans are still talking about the jaw-dropping cameo from Star Wars icon Luke Skywalker who came to the aid of Din Djarin and his crew. It was later revealed that it was actually the famed Jedi master who answered Grogu aka Baby Yoda's call in the Jedi temple and now, the Force-wielding creature is under the tutelage of Skywalker.
The cameo was actually teased long before the episode came out and a lot of us saw it coming from a mile, or should I say, a galaxy away but apparently, the cast of the hit Star Wars spin-off show had no clue about the cameo until the day the finale was filmed. In fact, Katee Sackhoff reveals that Lucasfilm purposely lied to them about the cameo and told them it was someone else.
In a recent appearance on Star Wars Explained's gaming stream (via The Direct), the Bo-Katan Kryze actress said that the cast was told that the Jedi who will be making an appearance in the finale was Plo Koon, the fan-favorite character from the Clone Wars era. Sackhoff explains: "Do you know that's who we thought it [the surprise cameo] was at the end? That's who we were told it was, and I am a very gullible person"
When you think about it, more than any character or Jedi for that matter, Luke was the only one who made sense showing up in the finale and now that he's back in the Star Wars universe, the door is wide open for Lucasfilm to explore what exactly happened to him following Return of the Jedi leading up to his brief comeback in the sequel trilogy. And with the studio rumored to be cooking up his own spin-off series, it's safe to assume that Skywalker will be sticking around in the Mandoverse for more appearances and I'm all here for it.
Meanwhile, The Mandalorian Season 3 is scheduled to begin filming this month.
