Not a lot of people are aware of this interesting bit, but Emma Stone's reimagining of Cruella de Vil in the upcoming Disney film Cruella was actually co-produced by Glenn Close, the character's original live-action actress. Close breathed life into the iconic Disney villain in 1996's 101 Dalmatians and the 2000 follow-up 102 Dalmatians and her portrayal of the fashion maven obsessed with dalmatians was well-received by fans and critics alike.
It's been over two decades since Close played the character but apparently, the award-winning star believes her days as Cruella are far from done and in a new interview, she expressed her desire to reprise her Cruella role in her own solo project. According to the Guardians of the Galaxy actress, she already has an idea for the project and how everything would play out and boy, it sounds like it will take the character to places she's never been before.
Speaking with Variety, Close shared her outrageous yet brilliant plans of doing a Cruella spinoff project which matches the dark tone of the 2021 remake. She said: "I have a great story to make another Cruella with my Cruella: Cruella comes to New York and disappears down the sewers." Personally, I think that would be a fun project to see especially if it ties directly into Stone's upcoming project. Heck, let's just do a Cruella "multiverse" while we're at it.
Meanwhile, the 2021 reimagining of Cruella recently revealed brand new character posters featuring Stone, Emma Thompson, Joel Fry, Paul Walter Hauser, and Kelly Howell-Baptiste along with a wicked behind-the-scenes featurette. Check out the images below:
