The 3 Star Wars Films That Ruined the Franchise According to Rotten Tomatoes Stats

Rotten Tomatoes has recently come out with their best franchises of all time, but fans are wondering why Star Wars had barely made the list at number 10, being beaten out by titles like The Hunger Games and Toy Story. As it turns out, Star Wars' fall from grace could be attributed to 3 movies.

As analyzed by the Dork Side of the Force, Star Wars low score on the RT list can be contributed to The Phantom Menace, The Clone Wars movie, and The Rise of Skywalker. This was based on three RT stats, being the Critics Score, Audience Score, and Box Office Gross.

TPM had apparently gotten a 53% with critics and 59% with audiences with TCW turning out an 18% critics score and 39% audience score. Probably the most drastic difference was with TROS which got 51% from critics but was ‘salvaged' by fans with an audience score of 86%.

RottenTomatoes also writes:

"Both critics and fans have had their qualms with some of the saga's individual installments — sometimes they've agreed, and sometimes they haven't. In the end, though, neither the average Tomatometer nor the average Audience Score ranked in the top 30 franchises overall, and it was only the consistently immense earning power of the Star Wars films — the best of any franchise — that pulled it up just high enough to make it into the top 10."

As far as stats go, I think Star Wars still manages to have more of a cultural impact than anything else on the RT list. I mean, Hunger Games may have more solid numbers but that franchise is slowly disappearing from the public eye. It's also kind of baffling that Indiana Jones would be so high on the list as well; solid films, but they don't resonate to audiences as strongly as Star Wars does today.

For now, Lucasfilm is taking a break with the films, and hopefully SW makes a triumphant comeback in the next five years. In the meantime, fans wait for the second season of The Mandalorian which is expected to hit Disney+ this October.
