Squid Game Bank Account REAL: Viewers Deposit Money to Account Number Shown On Series

Squid Game became a hot topic again after unknowingly using a Korean's phone number on the series. This time, the lead character's bank account is said to be authentic and receiving money from viewers.

Squid Game director Hwang Dong-Hyuk recently held an online interview where he addressed several topics about the Korean series.

One of the questions he clarified is about the account number on the ATM withdrawal scene.

The Bank Account on Squid Game is Real

When asked whether the team used the bank account details without the owner's permission, director Hwang revealed that it belonged to one of the show's producers. He added that he agreed with the directing team before including the details on the show.

Director Hwang disclosed that the bank account — a real one — has been receiving money from the viewers.

"I heard that producer has been receiving deposits in the amount of 456 KRW (0.38 USD) from people who watched the show," he said.

To prevent further deposits from happening, the production team decided to close the account to avoid potential issues in the future.

How About Squid Game's Phone Number?

Squid Game director also talked about the phone number that was revealed in the series.

South China Morning Post reported that a man from Gyeonggi Province owns the number. The man, who is in his 40s, reportedly suffers every day as he has been receiving around 4,000 calls every day since the Squid Game premiered.

While the man could have just changed his number, he refuses to do so as he has been using it for a long time.

According to Director Hwang, they used the number after being told it was safe. The producers never expected the number to work once a person adds 010 area code in the beginning.

"We're very sorry we did not check that in detail. I know the production team is working to properly compensate that individual. We are going to take responsibility for it until the end," he said, as quoted by AllKpop.

Korean Presidential hopeful and National Revolutionary Party's honorary chief, Huh Kyung-young, expressed his desire to buy the number for 100 million Korean won to save the man from severe damage.
