Zendaya Might Join Dune Movie As Paul Atreides' Beloved Chani

It looks like Zendaya is going to be a truly busy actress. The Spider-Man: Far From Home star is reportedly in talks to play Timothée Chalamet's love interest in Denis Villeneuve's upcoming Dune adaptation.

According to Collider, Zendaya is currently in negotiations to play Chani, the Fremen warrior who first encounters Paul Atreides (Chalamet) and his mother Lady Jessica (Rebecca Ferguson) when they escape to the desert. Chani eventually becomes Paul's lover as his prescience powers manifest. Interestingly, Paul actually sees Chani in his dreams before heading into the desert.

Zendaya certainly would be an interesting choice to play Chani in the film. We're hoping that the Greatest Showman actress will soon be confirmed for the role.

The cast of Dune continues to grow. It was previously reported that Star Wars: Episode IX actor Oscar Isaac is also in negotiations to play Paul's father Duke Leto. If Isaac is confirmed, he will be joining Thor: The Dark World star Stellan Skarsgård, who has been cast as Baron Harkonnen and Dave Bautista, who will portray Glossu "Beast" Rabban. Film legend Charlotte Rampling has also been added as the Reverend Mother Mohiam.

Casting the Dune adaptation certainly isn't a problem for Villeneuve. It looks like several actors are eager to work with the director after the success of Blade Runner 2049. We're definitely crossing our fingers in hopes that Zendaya and Isaac will eventually join the already stellar cast.

Dune has not yet been given an official release date. Nevertheless, the film is expected to hit theaters in late 2020.
