Zack Snyder's Rebel Moon Adds Deadpool Star Ed Skrein, Replaces Rupert Friend

After his contributions to the DCEU and last year's hit zombie film Army of the Dead, Zack Snyder is setting his sight next on Rebel Moon, a Star Wars-esque science-fiction film that he is making for Netflix. Production has already started for the director's passion project. However, it looks like the film is going to have some cast changes.

According to Deadline, Deadpool star Ed Skrein has been tapped to play the main antagonist in Rebel Moon, replacing Rupert Friend, who was initially cast on the role and has exited due to scheduling conflicts. They also reported that Fra Fee (Hawkeye), Cleopatra Coleman (The Last Man on Earth), and Rhian Rees (Halloween) have also joined the cast.

They are joining the ensemble that already includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Stuart Martin, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, Michiel Huisman, and Alfonso Herrera.

Rebel Moon is "set in a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, then dispatching a young woman (Boutella) with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand."

Snyder is directing and co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300). He also serves as one of the producers along with his wife Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Eric Newman.

While it is unfortunate that Friend is no longer going to be involved in the film, Skrein is a great replacement and he has shown in films like Deadpool (where he played the antagonist Ajax) that he can play an interesting villain. Now that the film is officially on track, it is exciting to see what Snyder has in store for his next feature film which is already getting a lot of excitement from his fans.
