After years of working in Warner Bros. and the DCEU, director Zack Snyder made his jump to Netflix starting with the zombie heist film Army of the Dead which became a huge success for the streamer. The beloved filmmaker also signed a deal that guarantees the streamer as the home for his projects including his next film Rebel Moon, an epic science-fiction story that has been his passion project for years.

Snyder recently took to Twitter to announce that filming for Rebel Moon has finally begun. He shared behind-the-scenes photos from the set including our first look at Djimon Hounsou's character General Titus. You can check his tweet below:

Rebel Moon centers on "a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy that is threatened by the armies of a tyrannical regent named Belisarius. Desperate, the colonists dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them make a stand."

The cast includes Sofia Boutella, Charlie Hunnam, Djimon Hounsou, Doona Bae, Ray Fisher, Rupert Friend, Stuart Martin, Jena Malone, Staz Nair, Corey Stoll, Cary Elwes, Michiel Huisman, and Alfonso Herrera. Snyder is directing and co-wrote the script with Shay Hatten (Army of the Dead) and Kurt Johnstad (300). He also serves as one of the producers along with his wife Deborah Snyder, Wesley Coller, and Eric Newman.

It is great to hear that filming has finally begun for the film after we've been hearing so much news and updates regarding the project in the past several months. This has also been Snyder's passion project for years which first originated as an idea for a Star Wars film that he pitched prior to the Disney takeover. He later on decided to rework the story into an original film instead.
