Zachary Levi Reveals Whether He Will Continue Playing Shazam in the New DCU

When DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran revealed their first slate for the new DCU franchise a few weeks ago, they did not mention any plans of doing a third Shazam! film although they claimed that they might bring back Zachary Levi to play the hero at some point in the future.

Before and after the major announcement, Levi expressed his hope of continuing the role in the new DCU and shared his eagerness of being involved in the franchise if ever he gets a call from the duo about playing the hero in future projects.

Now, in a recent interview with IGN (via ComicBook.com), Levi provided another update about his future in the new DCU where he seemingly hinted that he might indeed continue playing the role as he claimed that he will be a "special part" of the franchise moving forward.

"I would say though that knowing that we've been able to make something that's really special and knowing that our producer boss Peter Safran and James Gunn are now our new bosses, and they're wonderful and talented and I think we get to be a really special part of the DC Universe moving forward. That's all really cool. So, you know, kudos to all of it," he said.

While Gunn and Safran themselves have not confirmed any definitive plans for a future DCU project involving Levi's Shazam, this seems to be a hint that they might have already talked regarding their plans for the character and he may remain to be part of it despite the massive changes that are coming.

However, it also poses a question of whether they will continue his current iteration of the character or will be playing some sort of a new variant to avoid any continuity issues (if they do a complete reboot). Either way, it is exciting to hear nonetheless that Levi may continue the role in the future.

For now, let's just wait for any news and updates regarding the actor's future in the franchise after the upcoming film. Based on this recent development, the signs look very promising.
