Yuju is the first GFRIEND member to make a career move after the girl group disbanded.
Despite being one of the monster rookies in their generation, GFRIEND eventually found themselves in the darkest moment of their career. They announced their split through the separate letters they wrote for their fans.
Their split came years after they debuted in 2015 and released their third full-length album Walpurgis Night. At that time, the group’s agency, Source Music, confirmed that the members decided to separate from the agency and refused to renew contracts with them.
The label then revealed that the departure would allow the girls to take the first step to have new beginnings.
Nearly a year after the disbandment, former GFRIEND member Yuju became the first to find a new career.
GFRIEND Yuju Prepares For Solo Debut
On Monday, Yuju unveiled the date and details of her highly-anticipated solo debut this month. It will serve as her first project since joining KONNECT Entertainment.
Her debut album titled Rec. will be released on January 18 at 6:00 p.m KST. The first teaser features the K-pop idol wearing a red dress and posing as she walks toward a carousel.
Following the announcement, fans who have been supporting her since the GFRIEND era asked everyone to stream the music despite now that she’s a soloist. Per the fans, female idols usually score more attention digitally. However, Yuju is yet to expand her empire online.
Yuju did not reveal more details about her project. But some fans seemingly noticed small details on the official poster, including the five symbols, which seemingly hint about the number of songs the idol would release.
When Did Yuju Shift Career?
Yuju’s new beginning came months after KONNECT Entertainment confirmed she officially joined the agency. The label described her as someone with a unique and powerful voice before assuring it would support her in everything through the company’s experts.
Meanwhile, the K-pop idol thanked the entertainment who believes in her full potential as an artist.
“I feel secure to be working with KONNECT Entertainment, which has shared with me their good energy and sincere respect. I want to approach the public in a new way with an honest image and diverse music,” she said, as quoted by Soompi.
Yuju’s other former co-members went on to sign with different agencies, with Yerin signing with Sublime Artist Agency and Sowon pursuing her acting career under IOK Company.
