The release date of You Season 4 Part 2 is just a few days away. And as the date draws near, avid fans can't help but come up with their own theories on how the show will continue.

Even though the first part of the show already revealed that the identity of the Eat the Rich killer is Rhys Montrose (played by Ed Speelers), there seems to be several fans who aren't convinced. In fact, they believe that all the killing in this season is still being done by Joe Goldberg/Jonathan Moore (played by Penn Badgley).

This fan theory seems so possible that we can't help but agree. So, we've dug up on some information and looked for some clues that would support this theory. But first, let's talk about this fan theory:

Is Joe the Eat the Rich Killer in You Season 4?

A Reddit user by the name of snowthief5 suggested that Joe has actually been stalking and talking to himself in the first part of You Season 4. The theory is that Joe has developed disassociate identity disorder after the series of traumatic events from the previous season. Or it could also be a disease that has long manifested since this abusive childhood.

This fan theory actually comes from a TikTok user called @nerdyblonde12. The fan came up with a question, bringing up the show's own statement on whodunnits:

"There's no such thing as a coincidence."

And in this case, Joe meets Rhys and the murders start happening.

The TikTok user shared:

"They had things in common. They both had messed up childhoods. They both hate the same people in this friend group. And they both like murdering people. It's no surprise every time I've ever seen Rhys and Joe talking, Rhys has not interacted with any other character. The only time we do see them interact is when the paparazzi are following him, or when he gives a eulogy at the funeral.
My hot take is Rhys is actually a figment of Joe's imagination. I am getting major Fight Club vibes here, because I do think Rhys is a real person. I do think he's running for London Major, and I think he is friends with these people, but every time Joe's talking to Rhys, it's not actually Rhys. He's been talking to himself. We can't forget that Joe is a serial killer, and he's killing these people."

Is Rhys Even a Real Character in You Season 4?

Yes, Rhys Montrose is a real person in the show and he's a real writer. He does know the socialites and is acquaintances with them, but if this theory is true, that's where the relationship ends. He may have had memories with the group in school, but it's likely that he has grown apart from them; especially since he seems to be a busy novelist and is even running for Mayor.

It's also possible that Rhys doesn't actually know the circle and Joe never met him at The Sundry House opening night.

So what are the signs that everything is in Joe's mind? Simple: Rhys never really interacts with the circle. And in the instances where Rhys shows up, it seems to be in the middle of nowhere and at a convenient time, first when he returns a coat at the bar and as he is being hunted by Roald (played by Ben Wiggins).

Rhys seems to just come and go as he pleases and doesn't even get noticed by the rest of the group. Plus, in the last episode of You Season 4 Part 1, there wasn't any mention of Rhys being at the country house. Nobody even bothered to wonder how Joe and Roald got to the secret dungeon in the first place so it's very possible that this is what will happen in You Season 4 Part 2.

We don't have any other clues to share at this time but with only a few days left before the show's release, all we can do right now is to wait.

You Season 4 Part 2 will come out on Netflix on March 9, 2023.
