You Can Now Watch and Get Emotional to Star Wars: The Force Awakens With Your Sphero BB-8

Sphero has added a new feature to its already amazing and adorable BB-8 toy droid. The toy company has updated its BB-8 app in lieu of the digital HD and DVD/Blu-ray release of Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The app will now allow Sphero BB-8 owners to watch the movie and react to it with their own BB-8, which will be reacting via sounds and motion.

So how exactly can you watch the film and get emotional with the Sphero BB-8?

First, update the Sphero BB-8 app. After updating, you'll find a new entry called "Watch With Me" on the app's play modes. This gets the toy ready to enjoy the movie with you.

Note: Make sure that the app has access to your microphone. Also, make sure that your BB-8 runs of full battery, or just keep the toy on its dock with the power cable plugged so it won't lose power while watching the 2-hour film.

Next, place your device with the Sphero BB-8 app near your TV so the device can hear what's happening at all times.

Perch your BB-8 on its dock in front of your TV so you could see it react to the events on the screen.

There you have it, you can check out your toy move in sadness, fear, joy, excitement, and more – all complete with matching sound effects.

Even though most fans probably don't need anyone or anything to actually enjoy watching any Star Wars film, this certainly looks like a new way to enjoy The Force Awakens. Now if only they could make BB-8 react to the first six Star Wars films.

The Sphero BB-8 app-controlled toy was released last year on Force Friday.
