Another popular manga is finally getting an anime. That manga is the award-winning Yakuza Fiancé, which was confirmed to be getting an anime series adaptation soon.

The upcoming anime was revealed via the author’s official X (formerly Twitter) account as well as on the Monthly Afternoon social media page.

Unlike other anime reveals which come with a teaser visual or a trailer, there wasn’t a lot of info revealed for this series. Despite this, the announcement got a lot of hype on X given its strong fanbase in Japan.

Yakuza Fiancé: A Risque and Violent Manga From Monthly Afternoon

The manga is officially titled Yakuza Fiancé: Raise wa Tanin ga Ii, and it’s a series that’s part of Kodansha’s Monthly Afternoon magazine.

This magazine may not have the high circulation numbers of Shonen Jump, but Afternoon is home to lots of acclaimed seinen titles. These include Vinland Saga, Heavenly Delusion, Skip and Loafer, and more.

It’s fair to say that Monthly Afternoon’s titles are unique and memorable, so it’s no surprise that Yakuza Fiancé is getting the anime treatment given its intriguing premise.

Yakuza Fiancé follows Yoshino Somei, a high school girl who is a “sheltered yakuza princess” as she’s the granddaughter of a yakuza family in Osaka.

Her grandfather soon signs a truce with Tokyo’s Miyama family. As part of the truce, Yoshino is betrothed to Kirishima Miyama, the grandson of the Miyama family’s leader.

Kirishima seems like a normal guy, but beneath his charming front lies a violent and sadomasochist person. As someone who was raised in a yakuza family though, Yoshino won’t back down.

Award-Winning Yakuza Fiancé Manga Is Finally Getting an Anime

The anime adaptation was revealed by series creator Asuka Konishi on X with a special visual featuring Yoshino and Kirishima.

Soon after the announcement, Konishi’s post got lots of attention from fans. In just under a day, the post already has over 100k likes, indicating that there’s a lot of excitement for this upcoming anime.

Based on its premise, fans of other Afternoon titles should check this out when it gets released. Romance anime fans who want something a bit darker might also want to give this a try.

It will probably be a while before this gets released though, given that there’s no trailer or visual for the anime yet.

In the meantime, anime fans who are interested in reading the manga can do so in English as the series is published by Seven Seas Entertainment.

Digital editions of the volume releases are available on Amazon, Bookwalker, and other platforms.
